Meet Ms. Tyner
Hello, my name is Deirdre Tyner. I am very excited to be your teacher! I have been a teacher for fourteen years. This year will be my third year working as a teacher for Pitt County Schools.
MY EXPERIENCES:
* I started my teaching career in August 2005 at Greene County Middle School where I co-taught 6th, 7th, and 8th Graders.
* From there I taught at Riverside High School in Williamston, NC for nine years, P.S. Jones Middle School (Washington, NC) for two years, and then Junius H. Rose High School in Greenville, NC,
EDUCATION:
I am a proud graduate of Washington High School (Go, Pam Pack!!!!!). I attended Elizabeth City State University and East Carolina University after high school. I graduated from East Carolina University in May 2005 with a BS degree in Special Education/Learning Disabilities and Elizabeth City State University where I attained a Master of Education in Elementary Education degree in December 2016.
MY INTERESTS:
I am a member of the National Education Association (NEA)/North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) , Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), International Literacy Association (ILA), and was a teacher consultant with the Tar River Writing Project at ECU/NWP (National Writing Project).
In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing poetry, listening to spoken word poetry, drawing/doodling, making crafts, volunteering and coaching for Special Olympics, learning about bees and bee keeping, and spending quality time with my four granddaughters (Damionna, Ja'kirah, Kiara, and Kharmyn).
On a personal note, I firmly believe in empowerment and social change. I see volunteerism as a process of empowerment so I volunteer as much as possible in my spare time. The following non-profit organizations are my favorite places to volunteer, Generation Y Center, Inc., the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina (Greenville Branch), and Special Olympics of North Carolina (Beaufort/Hyde).
